A wired gateway is a wall-mounted device that detects wireless tag signals and sends data to ToolWatch. Correct installation ensures accurate scans, reliable signal strength, and consistent updates.
This article walks you through all required components and step-by-step instructions for mounting a wired gateway.
What You Need Before You Begin
Make sure you have the following components that come with the gateway kit:
Gateway
Mounting bracket
Antenna
Power cord
USB wall plug
You will also need:
A nearby wall outlet
A location with cell service (required for data transmission)
A clean, unobstructed wall surface
Best Practices Before Installation
To ensure the gateway performs correctly:
Choose a location free of obstructions such as metal shelving, heavy machinery, or thick walls.
Avoid direct sunlight which may cause overheating.
Mount the gateway high on the wall – higher placement improves scan radius.
Do not install in areas prone to impact or moisture.
Mount indoors.
Step-by-Step Installation Instructions
1. Select the Installation Location
Identify a location near a wall outlet.
Confirm the area has sufficient cell signal for the gateway to connect.
Avoid fully enclosed or obstructed areas.
2. Connect the Antenna (if applicable)
Screw the antenna into the port on the gateway until it is secure.
3. Connect the Power cable and plug the Gateway into an outlet
The indicator light should turn on once powered.
There is no "on" button.
4. Hold the Gateway against the wall where you plan to install it.
Stretch the power cord to the highest position attainable without bending or stressing the cord.
Mounting the Gateway higher on the wall improves wireless range and overall performance.
5. Mark the wall to show where the Gateway will be installed.
Use the Gateway’s position as a guide for bracket placement.
6. Position the mounting bracket on the wall using your marks as a guide.
Align the bracket so the Gateway will sit correctly when attached.
7. Secure the mounting bracket to the wall.
Ensure the bracket is level and firmly fastened.
8. Snap the Gateway onto the mounted bracket.
Press gently until it clicks into place.
9. Confirm that the Gateway is powered on and begins broadcasting.
10. Re-check cell signal quality after installation.
If signal is weak, move the gateway higher or closer to an exterior wall.
Troubleshooting
Gateway not powering on:
Ensure the power adapter is fully inserted into the outlet and the device.Poor cellular performance:

Mount the gateway as high as possible for the largest signal “sphere.”
