Understanding Scan Types and GPS Gateways on the Map

Learn how GPS trackers, GPS Gateways, BLE tags, and barcode scans display on the ToolWatch Map, including icon types and shading.

Overview

The ToolWatch Map displays asset and gateway location data collected from active GPS trackers, battery-powered GPS Gateways, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tags, and mobile barcode scans. Each scan and device type is represented by a specific icon and color-coded outline to help you quickly assess location accuracy and data freshness.

Scan Types and Data Freshness

  • GPS Scans: Captured automatically from active GPS trackers assigned to assets and displayed as crosshair icons.

  • GPS Gateways: Battery-powered devices that detect nearby Bluetooth tags and report locations to ToolWatch; displayed as distinct gateway icons.

  • Bluetooth (BLE) Scans: Captured from BLE tags when scanned using a mobile device with location sharing enabled; displayed as crosshair icons.

  • Barcode Scans: Captured during mobile app scan actions (such as Transfers, Search, Service Requests, or Equipment Usage) with location sharing enabled; displayed as barcode icons.

  • Fresh Data (0–24 Hours): Represented by a green icon outline on the map.

  • Stale Data (30+ Days): Represented by a light gray icon outline on the map.


How to View Scan Types and Check Data Freshness

  1. From the left navigation menu, expand Tracking and select Map.

  2. Select Map.

  3. Expand the Pins filter dropdown menu.

  4. Check the specific scan or device types you want to display, such as GPS Gateways, GPS Scans, Bluetooth Scans, or Barcode Scans.

  5. Click the Map Legend icon in the top right corner of the map to view symbols for each scan type and data freshness shading timeframes.

  6. Hover your cursor over any individual device or gateway pin on the map to display its quick detail card and inspect item information.

  7. If a blue number cluster icon appears on the map, click or zoom in on the icon to expand it and view each individual device pin.
