Overview
Wireless tracking reports in ToolWatch help you identify tools that may be misplaced, inactive, not scanning, or outside their expected locations. ToolWatch currently includes three wireless tracking reports. This article explains where to access them, what each report shows, and how to use them effectively.
How to Access Wireless Tracking Reports
Follow these steps to open wireless tracking reports: Go to Reports & Graphs in the left navigation menu.
Select Reports.
Select Tool Reports from the dropdown at the top of the page.
Choose one of the wireless tracking reports:
Wireless Assignment Exception Report
Wireless Last Scanned Report
Out of Bounds Report
Report 1 — Wireless Assignment Exception Report
What the report shows
Items where the last scanned location does NOT match the assigned location in ToolWatch.
What it means
Tools may be:
Moved without a digital transfer
Checked out without documentation
Left at the wrong warehouse or jobsite
Assigned the wrong wireless tag
How to use this report
Review regularly to quickly identify items that are misplaced so you can resolve errors before tools go missing.
Report 2 — Wireless Last Scanned Report
What the report shows
Each item’s most recent scanned location and timestamp.
What it means
Tools in this report may be:
Out of gateway range
In an area without wireless coverage
Blocked by materials that reduce Bluetooth visibility
Inactive but still present onsite
These conditions may delay or prevent additional scans.
How to use this report
Use this report to:
Confirm items are still scanning normally
Detect early signs of missing or misplaced tools
Identify tools that require manual verification
Check whether wireless gateways are performing as expected
This is your early detection tool for identifying potential tracking issues.
Report 3 — Out of Bounds Report
What the report shows
A GPS-specific report listing items whose GPS tracker has reported a location outside the assigned geofence, only if a geofence has been configured.
What it means
Tools may be:
Outside their approved jobsite
Leaving the controlled area unexpectedly
At risk of loss or unauthorized movement
How to use this report
Use this report to:
Identify unauthorized tool movement
Protect high-value GPS-tracked assets
Trigger follow-up checks or escalation procedures
This is especially valuable for tools required to remain within specific jobsite boundaries.
Troubleshooting Unexpected Report Results
Many tools show as not scanned
Gateway offline or poor cellular signal
Area layout changed, blocking signals
Tools stored in unmonitored areas
Tools appear in the wrong location
Wrong tag attached
Tool moved without digital transfer
Gateway coverage or scan area needs adjustment
Tools rarely scan but are onsite
Battery-powered gateways scan less frequently
Tool stored outside gateway range
Metal shelving or dense materials blocking signals
