Overview
Wireless Scan History shows every recorded detection of a tagged item. It helps you determine where a tool was last seen, how often it has scanned, and when it moved between locations. This feature is useful for auditing, investigation, and troubleshooting.
Before You Begin
If you cannot locate the item you want to review, first filter the Item Browser to show only wireless-tagged items. This makes it easier to identify which tools have wireless tracking data available.
You can do this using Advanced Search → Wireless Tagged Items → Search.
For the full filtering process, see “Reviewing Wireless Scan Results in the Item Browser.”
How to View Wireless Scan History
Follow these steps for any item with a wireless tag:
Expand Inventory.
Select Item Browser.
In the Categories panel, select the category for the asset (for example, Drill).
Right-click the item and select View Scans.
You can also open the Actions menu and select View Scans.
This opens the full scan history for the item.
How to Interpret Scan History
The Scan History window displays a set of data fields that may require horizontal scrolling to view in full. The following table explains each scan history column and how to use the information it provides.
Scan History Field Definitions
Field | What It Means | How to Use It |
Time Scanned | The exact date and time the gateway detected the wireless tag. | Helps determine how recently the item was scanned and whether it is actively reporting. |
Scan Type | The method of detection (e.g., BleTracking). | Indicates the type of scan that occurred and confirms it was captured by a gateway. |
Scanned By | The gateway or device that recorded the scan (e.g., “Mobile 001,” “Main Warehouse”). | Helps identify which gateway detected the item and can indicate movement between areas. |
Scan Location | The ToolWatch Location where the scan occurred (e.g., Warehouse, Yard, Jobsite). | Confirms if the item is in the expected location or if it may have moved. |
Scan Area | A gateway-defined Area inside the ToolWatch Location, such as Tool Room, Yard Zone, or Receiving Dock. | Helps pinpoint the item’s position within a larger site; useful for on-site searches. |
Latitude | The GPS latitude captured during the scan (available for GPS-enabled devices only). | Helps verify outdoor positioning or movement across large or open environments. |
Longitude | The GPS longitude captured during the scan. | Used with latitude to determine the exact scan position on a map. |

Why Scan History Matters
Scan History helps you:
Confirm location movement: Track when a tool moved between sites or warehouse areas.
Investigate missing tools: Look at the last known scan to determine where it was last seen.
Validate wireless gateway performance: Consistent or inconsistent scan frequencies can indicate gateway placement or power issues.
Audit tool activity: Useful for tracking usage patterns or verifying whether a tool has been active.
Troubleshooting Using Scan History
Few or no scans recorded
Check:
Gateway placement and power
Whether the tag is properly attached
If the tag was assigned to the correct item
Whether the area has cell service for gateway updates
Scan gaps or long periods without detection
Battery-powered gateways check in only a few times per day
Plug-in gateways check in more frequently (about every 10 minutes)
A tool may have been moved out of gateway range
Unexpected scan locations
Verify the tag is on the correct tool
Ensure the correct tag was assigned (common error)
Confirm gateway areas are configured properly
