Understanding Wireless Tracking Fields

After filtering, several wireless-specific columns can be displayed. These fields help you understand where your tools are and when they were last detected.

Field Definitions

  • Assignment: The expected ToolWatch location where the item is assigned.

  • Last Scanned: The most recent date and time the item’s tag was detected by a gateway.

  • Last Wireless Scan Location: The ToolWatch location where the last scan occurred.

  • Last Wireless Scan Area: A user-defined area within a location (such as Tool Room, Yard Zone, Receiving Dock) where the item was detected.

Making These Fields Visible

  • Assignment is a default column and always appears automatically.

  • Last Scanned, Last Wireless Scan Location, and Last Wireless Scan Area are not default columns.

  • Users must manually add these fields to Item Browser using the column customization options.

  • For detailed instructions, refer to the Help Center article Customizing Item Browser Columns.”

Why These Fields Matter

These fields help you:

  • Identify whether equipment is in the correct location

  • Detect misplaced, inactive, or missing items

  • Track tool movement within or between locations

  • Review recent activity to support audits or investigations

How to Use Scan Data Effectively

  • Compare Assignment vs. Last Wireless Scan Location to identify mismatches.

  • Use Last Wireless Scan Area to narrow down where the item was last seen inside a facility.

  • Review Last Scanned times to detect items that may be missing or out of range.

  • Look at items with older scan timestamps first during audits.

Using Scan History for More Detail

For detailed scan analysis:

Open the item’s Scan History by completing these steps in order:

  1. Right-click the item or open the Actions menu

  2. Select View Scans

This displays a chronological list of scan events, including timestamps and locations.

Troubleshooting Wireless Data Visibility

“Nothing is showing in my wireless columns.”

  • Confirm the item has a tag assigned

  • Verify the tag is physically attached

  • Check that a gateway is active in the area

“Scan data is delayed.”

  • Battery-powered gateways update every 4 hours

  • Plug-in gateways update every 10 minutes

  • Check gateway power and cell signal if delays seem excessive

“The assigned location doesn’t match the scan location.”

  • The item may be misplaced or moved

  • Confirm the correct tag was attached to the correct tool

  • Check Scan History to verify recent movement
