Overview
The Yabby is a battery-powered GPS tracker made by Digital Matter. It finds its own location with GPS and sends that location to ToolWatch over the cellular network. The Yabby does not scan for Bluetooth tags.
Use this article if:
The Yabby is not reporting.
The Yabby does not show in ToolWatch.
The GPS location is not updating.
The Yabby has stopped communicating.
Troubleshooting a Yabby GPS Tracker
If the Yabby is new, wait 24 to 48 hours. The Yabby ships activated, but it can take this long to show on the item.
Make sure the asset is in an area with cellular service. The Yabby uses the T-Mobile cellular network. When there is no service, the Yabby stores its location data and sends it when service returns.
If service is poor, move the asset to an area with better T-Mobile coverage. Wait for the Yabby to send its stored location data.
Check where the Yabby is mounted. Make sure it is not under metal or inside a metal compartment, and that large metal equipment does not block it. The Yabby needs the clearest possible view of the sky.
Open the Yabby and remove the batteries.
Wait at least 1 minute. This lets the device turn off completely.
Put the batteries back in.
Look inside the Yabby for the green LED. If it blinks, the Yabby is on again. Close the device and wait for it to report. If it does not blink, go to step 9.
Replace the batteries with 3 new AAA lithium batteries, then do steps 5 to 8 again. For battery information, see Batteries for Gateways, GPS Devices, and BLE Tags.
Notes:
When the asset is not moving, the Yabby checks in at least once a day. A long gap between reports is normal for an asset that has not moved.
GPS signals cannot go through metal. A Yabby mounted under metal may not report its location.
When to Contact ToolWatch Support
Contact ToolWatch Support if the Yabby still does not report after these steps, or if the green LED does not blink with new batteries. Some checks can only be done by Support. Support can:
Confirm the Yabby is connected to the correct ToolWatch server for your organization.
Reset the Yabby remotely.
Check the Yabby for a hardware problem.
